Dear Barbra,
I’m a big fan and I live in Israel. I think that it would be just terrific if you could find a way to perform in Israel (although I probably couldn’t afford a ticket) or at least came for a visit.
Being from the U.S. myself, I know that there are many misconceptions about Israel. I bet I won’t convince you to visit Israel with just one letter. So, I’ll write several more with lots of reasons you should make a visit to the Holy Land.
One of the best reasons to visit Israel and to plan a concert here is because we have great weather. Right now we’re in winter and it can be a little wet. (This winter has been too dry though.) Spring, summer, and fall in Israel are particularly beautiful.
Most days are warm to hot and sunny! Jerusalem and other hilly regions in Israel have refreshingly cool evenings even in the middle of those dry dog days. It’s very similar to the Southern California weather that you’re already used to.
The dependably sunny and dry weather for most of the year means that you can schedule an outdoor performance with confidence. In the summer you can count on the fact that there will be no rain on your parade! Take a look at this chart that gives you more information about the climate of Israel.
Barbra, I really hope you’ll consider a visit to Israel. The great weather here is just of the many reasons to make a trip. I’ll be in touch again soon with another good one!
Sincerely yours,
John

Feel free to add my name to the signature! I remember once, years and years ago, my parents were visiting and we were riding an Egged bus from Lod to Reut, where we lived at the time. We were sitting near the front, and the driver was playing a Barbara Streisand album. When I commented, he got a bit dreamy-eyed, mentioning something to the effect that there was no one like her. Not quite what you’d expect from an Egged bus driver on the Lod-Reut line!

I’m at the hebrew U, the mount scopus campus, where everything has been dedicated and named to death, including the dustbins, the parking lots, each separate wall of a building etc. I rounded a corner the other day and saw a huge plaque, i.e a donation plaque, from barbara streisand, to the memory of her father john (I think) and his love of Torah learning. So there you go she must have been here at least once, or at least doesn’t think it’s such a dreadful place!

Katherine - Yeah! Lisa over at http://ontheface.blogware.com/ was over the other night and she told me about the Barbra Streisand plaque. I am up for a field trip to Jersualem when I get back from the US. Wanna meet and take my picture by the plaque?!
Lisa - we’ll have a sing-a-long on our next geeky tour!

[…] I hope that you enjoyed my last letter and that you’re really giving some thought to coming for a visit to Israel. From the comments on that post, you’ve got lots of fans here (at least 3) - even one bus driver! There are so many wonderful reasons for people to come here! However, I am aware that some people think that Israelis are rough and pushy - maybe even rude. I haven’t seen that to be the case. There are some definite cultural differences but I think that you’re very capable of getting by in Israel. […]
