Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

December 23rd, 2006 · 5 Comments

wreathYesterday I was waiting in the car while my mom was in the post office. I got to listen to Fresh Air with Terry Gross. She interviewed 94 year old songwriter Hugh Martin who wrote Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas for the 1944 film Meet Me in St. Louis. You can hear Judy Garland sing this famous song in this clip:

Here are the lyrics:
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
Next year all our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yuletide gay
Next year all our troubles will be miles away

Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Will be near to us once more

Through the years, we all will be together
If the fates allow
Until then, we’ll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Composed by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane

Merry Christmas, everybody.

That’s one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs - it makes me go all mushy! :-)

Hope you’re having a wonderful Christmas!
