It Pays to Have Lived in the Middle East (Part 2?)

August 4th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Today I drove to my mother’s house to pick up a package that Y recently shipped. More stuff from the new old country. Back home, I opened it with care and carefully pulled out the many wadded pages of Haaretz that I used to pad my treasures. I just looked at those pages of newsprint and cried and cried. I wanted to press them all out and read them - I can, you know! There were going away gifts - glass from the Old City, an oil painting by the mother of my best friend in Israel, a calendar that I’ll keep forever, my collection of Israeli rocks and beach glass, and lots of other goodies. Did I mention that I cried and cried?

After all of that, I went with my friend David and my new friend John to the Charlotte Antiques and Collectibles show. Today’s high was 96 degrees. It was friggin’ hot - but I was used to it and actually enjoyed the bright sun. We had discussed going to the show earlier in the week and I found a coupon online. Nobody had a printer at home so we went without said coupon. At the gate I put on my big smile and said, “I saw the $1 off coupon online but I didn’t have a printer at home. Will you give me the discount anyway?” The lady shifted in her chair and shook her head no. Then I pressed, “Not even for a cute boy on a really hot day?” She gave me the discount! I got one dollar off! I love this game!
