I’m in the big city of Tel Aviv for the next several days house and dog sitting. Y will be hanging out in JerusaLAME and joining me from time to time here.
Anyway, I just stopped by a little super market to pick up some basics - cereal for breakfast etc. When I went to check out, you’ll never guess what happened - you Israelis are in for a shock - the clerk BAGGED MY GROCERIES! That hasn’t happened since I lived in the US. I am ready to move to TA!

The clerk herself did that?! Usually there’s another person stanting near the clerk and bagging your stuff, but it’s rare.

Service is something I demand when it’s a service situation (e.g. eating out), but I’d rather pay lower prices at Costco and Food Lion and bag for myself or accept less service than pay high prices at Harris Teeter or Fresh Market and get good/great customer service - usually!

Some of the bigger supermarkets here (Raanana) have people to bag your groceries- and it is indeed a pleasure! By now, I’m so used to bagging my own that’s it’s nice just to let someone else take over.
Enjoy Tel Aviv- I used to live there, it’s lots of fun.
